Good morning!! I had grand plans of sleeping in this morning since my boys have the day off from school but my kids had a different idea of how they wanted to spend their morning. Their version included being up at the crack of dawn, being really loud and running up and down the stairs 1,001 times. All well. There's always tomorrow, right?! =)
I had a question from a reader this week about my process for getting dressed in the morning so I thought I'd take you through it using what I wore a few days ago as my example. First let me say, I always like to have some sort of an idea of what I'm wanting to wear before I go into my closet. I either pull from a set I've pre-created on Polyvore or I try to brainstorm ideas in my head as I'm doing my hair and make-up. It speeds up the process tremendously.
I went into my closet on Wednesday with a certain color combination in mind that I wanted to wear...navy and coral. I thought that one up while I was curling my second-day hair that I was too lazy to wash. =) Sometimes I start with a color combination, other times it's a certain item...it changes daily. So I went into my closet and started creating my outfit by picking out pants. I pulled out my salmon/pinkish colored Pilcros (close enough to coral for me). Check! Next I looked through the blue tops section of my closet and this navy top with cute white polka dots called out. Check! Then I realized the top had short sleeves so a cardigan was needed to keep warm (it's like 40 degrees here in the morning lately). I was thinking maybe black or grey...I found one that had a bit of a design which gave more texture...BONUS! Check! Next up...shoes. It's cold out so naturally I go for boots...flat black on this particular day. I know I have some errands to run and want to be comfy. I thought about wearing my flat brown boots but didn't like the way the brown looked up against the pink jeans for some reason. Black it is. Check! Next I checked out the neckline of my top and decided a shorter necklace would look best since i had a higher neckline. Then I grabbed some earrings, a ring, my watch and bracelets that I thought would look good together. I always check myself before leaving my room to see if I've hit all four areas for jewelry...neck, wrists, ears and hands. There's my OCD kicking in again. =) I sprayed on a little perfume (Daisy by Marc Jacobs on this particular day) as I walked out the door and was good to go.
The whole process took me about 10-12 minutes. Really, that's as long as getting dressed in the morning SHOULD take, however it's not always that quick for me, I must admit. Like I said, heading into my closet with SOMETHING in mind beforehand is a big help. If I walk in with no idea of what I want to wear it adds an extra 10-20 (to 30) minutes at least, easy. So there ya go...as we would say in my house growing up, it's not rocket science (my dad is actually a rocket engineer so we just told all our friends he was a rocket scientist...sounded much cooler). It just takes a little preparation and trial and error.
Here's how it all came together:

How long does it take you to get dressed in the morning? Do you pre-plan your outfits to save time? Or do you fly by the seat of your pants and figure it out as you go?
