OOTD and a New zip code.

Hi all!  How was your weekend!!!  I had a good one...we had lots fun on Friday (celebratory date night...I'll explain below), I was super productive on Saturday (cleaned out and organized a ton) and just relaxed on Sunday. Good all around.

First up I wanted to share what I wore to church yesterday...

What I Wore:
-Thousand Carat Pullover-Anthropologie
-Cap Sleeve Tee-Shade Clothing
-Skirt-Shabby Apple
-Crossroads Belt
-Tegu Platforms-Anthropologie
-Necklace-Old Navy (old)
-Earrings-J Crew Factory
-Bracelet-Twisted Silver
-Bangles-Anthropologie
-Ring-Forever 21

I hadn't thought to pair this sweater with a skirt before...I now have plans to pair it with my Peppering Skirt in the future too!

So I mentioned above that hubby and I got out on Friday night for a little celebration.  What we were celebrating??  Well, on Friday afternoon I got the phone call I had been waiting for...finally!  I have loved living back in CA these past 5 years and will miss the bay area dearly, but I couldn't be more excited that we now know where we are headed next.  Drum roll please..............................................................................

Ohio!!!!!!!

And yes, we are thrilled!  Neither hubby or I have lived in the mid-west or the east before so this will be a whole new ball game.  I'm excited to explore a whole new part of the country and see some sites that I may not have otherwise seen anytime soon.  So in less than 4 short months we'll say goodbye to lots of things and people that we love, and hello to our new home in Ohio.  It'll be bittersweet.

Even though I'm changing zip codes my blog won't change much...minor adjustments in the hair department I'm guessing...my hair may now be a bit flatter in the summers (hello crazy humidity) and I may soon be sporting a lot more layers and closed-toe shoes/boots in the winter (snow anyone??) I even started to wonder to myself today if the way I dress here in CA will look odd to those in OH?  Do we dress the same?  Are trends just as popular there as they are here?  And don't worry, I've already looked up my closest Anthropologie...one will be 40-ish minutes away one way and another will be a little over an hour another way.  Do-able.  I hear there's some serious shopping to be had in Columbus...that may become my new favorite big city.  =)

So anyone know anything great about Ohio?  Specifically the Dayton area?  Do tell!  I'm trying to wrap my head around everything I can think of to prepare myself.

I will say I've glanced into my closet a few times this weekend and realized what I may be missing for the big move...I'm thinking I see a pair of these in the near future:

And perhaps a pair of these as well for all that snow:

Heaven help me!   I think I can, I think I can...

So here's a question for all your cold-weather state people...what else am I going to need to survive the cold?  I have actually lived in snow before (I lived in Utah for 5 years) but it's been a while.  It'll be like starting over again after living in warmer climates these past 9 years.  I'd love to hear any advice you have!

Hope your week gets off to a great start...happy Monday to you!

  1. well heres an early welcome to ohio! i dont know much about the dayton area, but cincinnati is where its at! ive never been to cali, and cinci is probably not as cool as cali, but there are many things i love about it. lots of neat cafes, restaurants, and sports fans. and we love anthro here in ohio!! i work at the one in kenwood mall. youll need lots of cozy sweaters, a few good pairs of boots, and some coats. but dont worry, our summers are HOT and humid, so youll need lots of airy sundresses and sandals too :D

love your outfit for church btw :)

  2. We've been in Georgia the last 3ish years but spent the previous 11 at Wright-Patt and loved every stinkin' second of it.. The Second street market for great local food and vendors, the theaters, museums... Yellow Springs!!! Ugh... sometimes my heart still pangs for it ~ Though I love Georgia too ;-)

  3. Welcome to Ohio! I live in Columbus and we absolutely love it. Wonderful shopping and so many activities for kids! We had a very mild winter this year but that is rare. Definitely plan on getting those boots and a down jacket. Summer is hot and humid but it doesn't last forever. Autumn here is AMAZING.

Ohio is a wonderful place to raise a family and your style will fit right in here :)

    1. I have heard great things about the shopping at Easton in Columbus so that'll be fun to try out. I am really looking forward to fall this year...I hear it's so pretty out there that time of year!

  4. YES! I lived in West Chester which is a suburb of Cincy. I was about 30 min South of Dayton. Good mall in Fairfield!! You will love it. Cincy is so close, lots of good shopping there and in Columbus at Easton which is not too far from Dayton. That's where I do all my big shopping outings I mention on my blog. The Midwest is great, I've lived here most of my life. Now onto the mountains!! LMK if I can answer any questions.

  6. oh, how fun! I live in the Midwest (although further south - I'm in St. Louis) and I can't imagine living anywhere else! We reguarly hire people from all over the US and people always comment on how nice Midwesterners are, so even if you don't fit in, we'll make you feel like you do!

I've only been to Dayton once, and it was visiting a friend who was in school there, so I don't have any real recommendations. If you don't have one already, I'd recommend an automatic car starter - it makes bitterly cold, icy winter mornings bearable. I don't have one in my current car, but it will be a must-have in my next one! Summers (at least in St. Louis) suck, though - SO hot and humid and you can't really escape it. We make up for it with beautiful springs and falls, though!

  7. Congrats on your good news! Dayton is a nice place and much cheaper than anything in CA. I used to travel there several times a year with my job. I think you will find that your "quality of life" will improve a great deal. If anything, you will have more disposable income :-) My hubby and I have lived in Lexington, KY, Washington, DC and now Nashville, TN (where I grew up) over the past 11 years. He is grad student. It is fun and exciting to move around and experience new areas. Best of luck with the move!

    1. I am really hoping the school systems are better out there than here in CA. I'm sure everywhere has budget cuts but ours in CA has been insane. They even voted on whether or not to cut kindergarten a few weeks ago to save money...how insane! It didn't pass, thankfully. I've heard great things about the mid-west so we're excited to see it all first hand!

I have a friend who lives in Dayton and she has a blog that she has posted a few posts about the city and area that might be helpful. http://movingtodayton.blogspot.com/ Anyway, she is one of those people everyone feels lucky to know. 14. Hello- just a lurker here. :-) However I pop in and read your blog often. Funny that you are moving to Ohio! First my condolences for leaving sunny CA and coming to this crazy weather state. We had tornados like crazy Friday night and snow today. Go figure... I am from a small town that is located between Dayton and Cincinnati. And I just moved back to said small town after living in Cbus for the last 6 years. And boy do I miss it! Easton IS great shopping and there is also Polaris. Kenwood in Cincy is nice however that mall is always super busy. I've thought there may be fist fights over parking spots! So good luck there! There are also some other nice shopping places to hit up though they won't have an anthro or jcrew. Beavercreek near Dayton has a nice new outdoor shopping venue called The Greene. Lots of good eats and shopping. If you ever need any info about finding your way around I would be more than happy to give you the info I know. For instance I have a great pediatrician in Kettering that I could recommend and stuff like that. Email anytime at lbelleconner@yahoo.com and good luck with your move!

Living on the east coast I have bought a lot more coats than ever before, just because I get sick of wearing the same ones! Good luck!

  22. I've lived in Dayton my whole life and it definently has its good points. The traffic isn't bad and the town is easy to get around. The Greene is a fun outdoor shopping area. There are also lots of parks and some good bike trails. It's not glamorous, but people are kind and welcoming.

  25. I live in Minnesota, so trust me, the BEST boots EVER are Steger Mukluks (first designed by Will Steger who traveled to the South Pole). They are made here in Ely, MN and are the best and warmest boots you will ever wear!! Best part? They are so light they feel like slippers! Uggs aren't great for snow...the suede ends up cracking when it dries out and they end up looking yucky (I have pairs, just not for snowy days :) Here is a link to the boots I own: http://shop.mukluks.com/Tall-Ojibwa-Maple-Mukluks/productinfo/O2MA/

If you end up regretting your purchase, I'll buy them from you! THAT's how sure I am you will love them!!!! :)
