Reader Question: What should I wear on my Disney Vacation???

TGIF!!!

It's going to be a rainy weekend here in the mid-west!  All of a sudden our winter wonderland has disappeared and the rain has swooped in, taking over the place.  I'm actually thrilled to see the grass again.  Two to three weeks of snow on the ground was good enough for me.  If we don't see snow again until next winter that would be fine with me!  My kids wouldn't mind one more big storm in the next few months, however.  They love it!

So today I thought I'd share a question I received from a blog reader this week.  Mindie emailed me asking for ideas for a packing list for her 9-day Disney World Vacation she's going on with her family in just a few weeks. The weather will be in the 70's (gotta love the winter weather in Florida!!!) and she plans to wear flats or sandals daily on her feet.  She told me she has a lot of the same tops I have, so using what I have in my closet, along with some newer Anthropologie items (she has an Anthro gift card burning a hole in her pocket she'd love to use!!!) I tried to put together a list that was versatile, colorful (I like to be colorful so my kids can always find me in a crowd) and comfortable. The key to packing for a Disney vacation really is comfort, comfort, comfort!  Also, I never pack any shirts that are made out of a nicer fabric (silk, etc) when I go to Disney.  It's inevitable that the second you do, you'll get thrown up on or something will be spilled on you.  Been there, done that, ,and won't do it again!!!   Also, I almost always wear a top that a cardigan can easily be layered over to make sure I'm warm when night time hits and the temperature goes down.

So here's the packing list I came up with:

This of course doesn't include any accessories, but when I do Disney, I try to wear jewelry that won't get in the way too much.  Wear shorter necklaces especially.  The longer the necklaces are, the better chance they have to get caught in something and snap.  You don't want to come home with broken pieces in your bag!

Hopefully this list will at least be a good jumping off point for Mindie and she can come up with the perfect packing list for her.  Hope you have a great trip! =)

Are you taking any vacations soon??  I know the winter months are sometimes the most popular to get up and take off for some place a little warmer!  We are actually looking forward to our upcoming vacation in March...we are taking our boys with us to England for 10 days to see my husband's brother and his family for Spring Break!  We are SOOO excited!  My bro-in-law and sis-in-law were nice enough to volunteer to watch the boys overnight for us while just Josh and I go to Paris for two days alone...AHHH!  Yes, I'm going to Paris.  I seriously die!   London was exciting enough but then when Paris got thrown in there too...ya, there are no words.  Now that's going to be a fun packing list to create...but challenging!  I've never traveled internationally so this will be interesting.

Have you been to England?  Paris?  I'd love to hear anything you want to share about either!  Good places to eat, great places to visit, great boutiques to shop at...give it to me! =)

Well, I'm off to start my day...as I've been typing the rain has stopped so perhaps we'll get a little break for a while.  Crossing my fingers!

Hope you have a great weekend!

  1. Fantastic - London is huge, where do they live a bit more spefically (if you don't mind saying a rough area). I don't like London, it scares me but I'm going to a Boden meet in Feb nonetheless as it's only 45 mins on the train. I've not been to Paris, hoping to do the marathon in the next few years though.

We are going to Dubai & Abu Dhabi in April then France in May and August. Oh and Amsterdam in October obviously for my marathon.

  3. London and Paris are both amazing cities -- and the best thing about them if you've never been is the sheer amount of beautiful public architecture you see just walking around. In Paris the Arc de Triomphe, Eiffel Tower, Montmartre are all amazing to see, but equally cool to wander in the tuileries and buy a fresh jam crepe from a vendor. In Paris my favorite church to look at is the Ste Chapelle, which has truly amazing stained glass and colors everywhere, and its age is incredible given the oldest monuments we have in this country. My favorite museum there is the Musee d'Orsay, an old train station, which has some of the best impressionist/post-impressionist work -- hopefully it won't be too packed in March. In London, likewise, there is so much to see just walking around, but for museums both my husband and I really enjoyed the Cabinet War Rooms part of the Imperial War Museum.

I've meant to comment here for a bit -- I love your blog and think we are likely of similar size and taste, so I find your outfit combinations really helpful to see (especially as I have not QUITE yet completely bought into skinny jeans, I know, I know).

  4. I could spend two days in the Louvre alone! I'd say the fashion in Paris is much more streamlined and neutral than current American fashion, but you won't go wrong with great boots, luxe sweaters, and skinnies. Yay for Paris!

  8. My hubby is working in Germany, so we got the opportunity to travel to Paris about a month ago. We were there for 3 days and it simply was not enough time to see everything. If you google tripadvisor 3 days in Paris, you will get a great day-by-day guide on how to plan your trip, albeit you will have to condense it down a bit. I highly recommend getting a Paris museum pass (great for skipping the lines at The Louvre and Musee (Museum) D'Orsay both museums are fantastic! Also, I recommend the hop on and off tour bus operated by L'Open Tours---fantastic for getting around to the famous landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, etc as well as the museums. Can't recommend great food places as we had our 5 year old son and ate at places like Hard Rock Cafe and The Hippopatamus. The only shopping I did was at Zara and Mango on the Boulevard Italiens ( pretty sure this was the street) as I had my hubby and 5 year old and was nursing a sinus infection at the time. Fell in love with the macarons at Laduree though I here that the ones at Pierre Herme are better. Paris is awesome and I wish you a fantastic trip! Hopping yo get back to Paris soon either on my son's spring break or when he gets out for the summer!

  12. Hi Jenni, Great packing list! I would definitely add some shorts to the mix! After living in West Palm Beach for 30 years, I know it will be hot and HUMID at Disney! Don't forget a bathing suit!

  13. You've got the packing list pretty well covered! I second the shorts idea, the humidity is killer. I can't wait to hear about your European vacation.
