Breaking the Color Combination Rut

Sometimes I feel like I get stuck in a color rut.  I turn to my go-to favorite color combinations more often than not because I know they work.  You know, purple and yellow, turquoise and red, white and well, anything...oldies but goodies.  I decided to challenge myself a little and come up with a new color combination to wear this past Sunday.  I started with the Corded Dots Skirt from Anthro...I figured the neutral mustardy-yellow color was a good beginning of an outfit.  Next I pulled out a grey tank.  Yellow and grey work pretty flawlessly together so I ran with it.  Still, nothing was looking too unexpected at this point so now it was time to pull out something I wouldn't normally grab.

I had seen a picture somewhere (in In-Style magazine I think) where mustard yellow was paired with Seafoam green and it looked really cute.  That is a color combination I never would have come up with all  on my own.  I threw on a Seafoam green cardigan I've had for a few years, along with some matching heels, grey patterned tights and BAM!  It worked (at least I think it did...you tell me)!  I topped it off with my Drawing Room Necklace (couldn't resist throwing in a touch of purple with my mustard yellow), some gold earrings and a few bangles.  Off to church I went.

It's kind of fun stepping outside my box with color!

So it's the last day of February...crazy!  We have lots of fun things planned for March so I'm excited for the new month to be upon us.  We should be finding out where we're moving this summer, we have lots of family coming to visit, my oldest will be participating in his first Pinewood Derby in Cub Scouts, we have a trip to Disneyland planned...I have a feeling the month is going to fly by so fast!  Hopefully being busy with all our fun plans will make it easy for me to stick to some new shopping rules I'm implementing for myself.  I'm not going on a ban, but scaling back a lot.  It was fun to hear that some of you want to join in and spend less along with me!    I'll be posting my personal shopping rules tomorrow, so stay tuned.  Shout out if you wanna join in and spend less, too!

Have a happy Wednesday!

  2. I LOVE this outfit Jenni! Haha, and I'm actually wearing my Celosia Cardigan in grey today, but thinking it's too big now, and I don't think I could bare to part with it! It's such a fun, ruffle-icious piece! :) The seafoam with your mustard skirt is perfection. :)
