Happy New Year everyone! I can hardly believe it's 2012! I've been looking forward to 2012 for as long as I can remember...this is the year my husband's residency will be OVER!!! When he was accepted into his residency program back in 2006, the year 2012 seemed like an eternity away and finally now it is upon us.
So as the new year begins I have my sights set on 2012 in many ways. Since this is a fashion blog I'll share what I have planned for my closet this year. I've done a little inventory check and have come up with some items that I really still want to add to my closet...basics, really, that I just haven't quite gotten around to acquiring. 2011 was a big year for my closet as I added a lot of tanks I could layer, colored denim and quite a few coats, shoes and cardigans. 2012 will be a little more toned down. I certainly don't need much at all but here are a few items I'd love to add:
1. J Crew No. 2 Pencil Skirt in Double Serge Wool (Black and whatever else I can find)
Somehow I have managed to skip over purchasing this very basic item for all these years. I don't own a single plain black pencil skirt! What the heck? That goes against some fashion rule, right? I would actually love to add a few of these cute skirts to my closet as they are so perfect to mix and match with different items I already own, so I've got my eye on the sale page. As soon as they hit sale, I'm there!
2. Leopard Print Shoes--Flats and Heels
I currently own a pair of leopard print flats but they are totally falling apart. I bought them almost three years ago and they're from Forever 21. Be impressed they're still wearable! Wearable, but on they're last leg. I have searched and searched and come up empty handed when it comes to finding the perfect leopard print flat. $$$ is usually the reason. The pair I really love are from Kate Spade and are $250. No go. I can't do it. So the search continues. As for a heeled pair, I have my eye on a few pairs at Nordstrom right now...one pair is a heel and one pair is a wedge. I'm not sure which I prefer which is why I haven't taken the plunge. What do you think? Which is more versatile?
3. White Ankle Skinny Jeans
I currently own a pair of J Crew Factory white matchstick jeans that are too long so I roll them and call these my white skinny jeans. After last summer I decided I had enough of the rolling...I really want a pair that have a better (tighter) fit throughout my legs and an ankle length without the rolling. I have (not-so) patiently been waiting for the AG Stevies in white to go on sale at Anthro because I really love them. I own a few other colors in these particular jeans and have been really happy with them so I'd love to add the white ones to my closet too. A few other options may include the new Always Skinny Cropped jeans from Gap (haven't seen these in real life yet) and the J Crew Ankle Stretch Toothpick Jeans in white. I've loved these from afar but never have tried them on in real life either.
4. Easy to throw on printed tops
It would be silly to say I don't own a ton of tops, because I certainly do, but the majority of them have to be worn layered to be considered modest in my book. I would love to have some more cute, interesting printed tops that I could wear stand-alone...without layering them to be modest. It's all about modest being hottest, right? =) It's honestly hard to find tops that fit this criteria, you'd be surprised. Anytime one comes along I usually jump on it. I'll be keeping an eye out for this type of top more so than a tank that has to be layered this year. Will I still add a few tanks to my wardrobe? I'm sure of it. But my focus will be on the one-stop shop for the modest top. =)
5. The Dress
I tried this dress on a few months ago and fell hard. I am totally in love with this pretty little thing. Originally I thought maybe I would get it to wear to my husband's work Christmas party but when it hadn't yet hit sale I decided to hold out and wear something else. Now, with Josh's graduation from residency coming in just 6 months, I'm thinking this would be the perfect dress to wear to the big event. It's perfect because I can wear it here and then since we'll be moving in the summer I can wear it to some other big event at our new place and no one will have seen it before! Maybe it'll be the Christmas work party dress for 2012! Can't wait to add this to my closet.
So there you have it...a very condensed version of what I would like to add to my closet in 2012. I of course have a running wish list of things that don't fit into these 5 categories so here's a few more lovelies that I'm secretly crushing on right now too:
I wish you all a happy, healthy, fun, lucky and adventurous 2012! May you find lots of fun things in your closets!
Happy New Year! Cheers to 2012 being a great one, and YAY for your husband's residency being over soon!!
ReplyDeletei know what you mean about simple knits that you dont have to layer. they're quite hard to find, actually!! what residency program is he finishing up? i dont think i can do more than a 3-4 year program, yikes!
ReplyDeleteI like your closet picks for 2012, especially the print shoes and No. 2 pencil skirt.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year! :)
I'm in love with the Swivel Revolution Top, too. You'll have to text me in it hits sale so I don't miss out!
ReplyDeleteOh how I feel your pain on tops that can be worn alone. No need to wear something OVER and/or UNDER. Whatever you find just scoop up an extra for me. :) I'll be sure to return the favor! haha!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE the J Crew No. 2 pencil skirts... they are great staples in my closet and I, too, have been wondering why I haven't purchased the basic black. I have a few other colors, but not black... weird!
Happy New Year!
Wow! What a awesome year for you!
ReplyDeleteCute clothing picks :)
Ditto about the tops! So practical, yet so hard to find!
And as far as leopard shoes go...wedge, heel, or flat they are all AMAZING.
Francesca
Kelly--thanks girlie! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteeasy petite looks--My husband is in a 4 year Oral Maxillofacial Surgery residency...it didnt actually start until 2008 but 2006 was when we got his acceptance letter telling him he would start in 2008. I can't imagine any more than 4 years of residency either...we've done 5 years of undergrad, 4 years of dental school and now residency...I'm soooo over it!
A Bigger Closet--thanks! =) Can never have too many skirts or shoes, unfortunately!
Heather--As soon as I see it hit sale I'll let you know. It's selling out quick though so I'm not sure if it'll be around! It may have to be a full price purchase.
Skylette--Glad to know someone else gets the whole covered on top bit...it's a challenge to find things that work! And isn't it funny that we totally skip over the most obvious need..a basic black skirt...duh! =)
Francesca--Thanks so much! And you're right, you can't go too wrong with a cute leopard print shoe, no matter what the heel!
