It happens to me all the time...I see something I HAVE to have, come up with a million outfits with that something in my head, purchase that something (on sale if possible) and then that special little something comes home with me and gets lost in my closet. Sad. In recent months (since the new year) I have gotten much more choosy about what I purchase. I have really tried hard to make sure I love each something special enough to not let them get lost deep into the abyss that is my closet. I think I've done much better. There may be one or two things I've purchased in recent months that I'm still on the fence about but overall it's drastically improved. Yesterday when I decided to go digging and find one of these lost special somethings I came across this cute top I purchased last summer at Loft. I remember being excited at the possibilities when I bought it but when I think back to how many times I've actually worn it, the grand total is 2. There's something wrong with that. So I brought it out to play yesterday:

While we're being honest here, these shoes have also been hiding in my closet since I purchased them last year as well. I can't even think of when I wore them last. I picked them up on clearance for under $20 at Target, and while they were a killer deal, things are really only a good deal if you get some wear out of them, right? So I'll be trying to wear these a little more too I think.
So tell me I'm not the only one that has hidden treasures in my closet! Are there things you buy (and LOVE when you buy them) but then forget about? My go-to tool lately for making sure this doesn't happen anymore is Polyvore. I know I've expressed my love for Polyvore before, but I just can't say enough good things about it. I still need to upload all my skirts and dresses into it but with everything else already uploaded it makes it so easy to come up with an outfit, and see what I have. It was so funny...I've showed my husband Polyvore before and explained to him what it was...he thought it was kinda neat but you know, he's a guy. He didn't really care much. Then last week he came home from his rotation in Fresno and said he overheard some nurses at the hospital talking about clothes and he heard the word "Polyvore" come up...he was pretty proud of himself for knowing what they were talking about. So funny. He wouldn't dream of telling anyone he actually knew what it was though, I'm sure. =)
I've deemed this morning my stay at home morning to take care of laundry, catch up on a few phone calls and emails, bills, etc...we're all still in our pj's and I have to say, it's nice to have a morning off from all the running around (except school drop off which YES, I did in my pj's...I just stay in the car so no one is the wiser). This afternoon we're meeting up with friends to get out and enjoy the sun at the park...I love the bay area in the spring when the sun is out!
Hope you all have a great day!
Jenni, I love this outfit! It is too cute! Blue and pink is one of my favorite combinations :)
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I've through everything you've said more than a dozen times (the part I dislike so much is when it gets lost in the closet and then months or years later I find it and start questioning why I ever bought it or even liked it to begin with? lol).
BTW, I have the same BR cardi, isn't it gorgeous? I loved the color & softness so much in IRL, I had to get it in peach as well. Lavender was already sold out :(
I am glad you started digging those were both great finds! I have so many things in my closet I forget I own and then find and think 'I wish I would have remembered that and worn it the other day' Oh I cannot wait for the day that I have a bigger closet!!!
ReplyDeleteI really need to flex some polyvore skills but I've got none! But I have a folder when I drop pics of newly purchased items into 1) as a reminder that I have said item now and 2) so I have help visualize new outfit combos.
ReplyDeleteI totally love this look - so girly, frilly and edgy casual at the same time!
I am so glad I am not the only that buys something with full intentions on wearing it all the time! Only for it to get lost in the closet. I just wore a pair or shoes ourchased also from Target to my baby shower and the compliments were plenty!! Needless to say I will be wearing them more often once I am able to balance me, the diaper bag and the baby all at the same time. I really like the mothers day outfit and the top from LOFT! One question I am wanting to possibly order a dress from Forever21 the maxi dress. How do those run? We do not have a F21 around here online is my only store. I usually wear a small in dresses are their dresses true to size? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteSuper cute..love the animal print!
ReplyDeleteI have the same problem! I've bought so many things I thought I can not live without but then I forget about it. Not even in the closet, but in the shopping bag still!! Oh my! But good for you for putting things together and making a cute outfit out of it!
ReplyDeleteI love that Loft top! Sadly, I too become obsessed with something only to bring it home and "lose" it in my closet. I did a major closet clean out recently and have "re-found" some things that I completely forgot about! Yikes! I am trying the anthroholic shopping ban to force myself to reach for items that have not been worn enough (or even once!)!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!

Glad to know that I am not the only one that runs a "mommy taxi". I make my neighbors dizzy from all the back and forth my car does each day (-: To school, back, practices, back - haaaa. Love the cardi. It looks like an Anthro one. I am going to have to beef up my cardigans. You have such a great collection. I will take a look at Old Navy.
ReplyDeleteI totally have things that get lost in my closet. It's horrible. But I also live in a place where I have to rotate out my wardrobe for the different seasons. I am just starting to bring out thing from last spring and summer...and surprise surprise - some things that didn't fit me last year - FIT THIS YEAR!!! It's been great. :)
