Ninty-nine and feeling fine

This is my 99th post on this blog....crazy! I have had so much fun writing this blog...I have met a lot of really neat people (consider yourselves my cyber friends...how dorky am I?!?) and have really learned a lot about myself, honestly. I've learned that I LOVE fashion...a lot. A lot more than I ever realized. I have learned NOT to be so scared to go outside my box a little...from colors to patterns to different combinations that maybe I never would have thought about before. I have learned that I have a TON of clothes in my closet that need to be worn more often. I have learned that I have a serious addiction to cardigans, shoes and all things with ruffles (hey, we all have our vices). Writing this blog and reading the blogs of others has totally helped my fashion evolve this year...in a good way. Thanks to all the awesome bloggers and readers out there for taking the time to blog, read posts and comment...I love reading other's posts and stealing your ideas sometimes too! =)

In honor of my 100th post (tomorrow) I will be having a giveaway so be sure to tune in to see what's going on!

So after posting my outfits yesterday and seeing I posted three outfits of cardigans over tanks I figured it was time to change it up a little...here's what I came up with:

Details:
-Cowlneck Tunic/Dress-Old Navy (early Fall 2010)
-Wonder Tee-Down East Basics
-Ultimate Skinny Jeans-Banana Republic
-Dollhouse Boots-Endless
-Necklace-Fossil
-Earrings-Express
-Ring-Pac Sun

You'll notice I have a new background behind me in the picture...we put up and decorated our Christmas tree last night and I am loving it! It's feeling a lot like Christmas now!! I love turning on the TV to the radio channels and having Christmas music playing softly in the background each night...so fun. I have lots to do for December so I better get on it! I was just telling myself I need to write a to-do list ASAP or else I'll forget something.

So no sale at Anthro today...rumor has it that it may be happening Thursday instead...we'll see. That's ok...it just gives me an extra day or two to make my official wish list for the month of December. Trying to narrow it down is gonna be rough...there are just so many cute things I have my eye on right now! Too bad money doesn't grow on trees, huh? =)

Hope everyone had a great day! Remember to check in tomorrow for my 100th post giveaway details!

The cold weather has arrived!!

This morning I woke up to 39 degree weather. Now, I know for some of you that's NOTHING, but after living in Texas for four years I've truly become a wuss when it comes to cold weather. I absolutely love fall and cold weather clothes, but when it comes close to freezing temps, I'm done. To top things off, on the coldest night of the season so far, our heater went out. The nerve, right?!! I was so cold this morning...I literally had to drag myself out of my warm bed. The good news is that the heater is fixed...thank heavens. For that I am truly grateful!!

To fight off the cold temps today I brought out some boots again. I want nothing more than a warm sweater over a layer or two and boots when it's cold out...it's my typical go-to shoe in the fall/winter so you'll be seeing it a lot. Today's version went a little something like this (please excuse the blurry spot...I realized after I took pictures that there was a smudge on the camera lens):

Details:
-Striped Layered Tank-Nordstrom
-Forever Cardigan-J Crew Outlet
-Skinny Cargos-Old Navy
-Boots-Urban Outfitters

I just realized I didn't post a few of the outfits I wore over the weekend so here's a little re-cap...

Anthro Dressing Reviews and today's OOTD

So as I mentioned in my previous post I spent a good amount of time at Anthropologie on Black Friday trying on anything and everything! The one thing that I goofed up on and forgot to try was the Pilcro cords...I even had them in my dressing room! I totally spaced it and forgot to try them on and by the time I realized it I was already done and dressed. All well...maybe next time.

So here we go...

Volante Tee

I tried this on in both an X-Small and Small and the one that fit the best was the XS. That's what you see here in this picture. The Small was way too big at the waist. I love this in purple and actually really liked it in beige as well. I wasn't sure if I would like this top as the shoulder thing is a bit big, but it doesn't look too big once it's on...it's actually really cute! This is a big two thumbs up for me and I'll be waiting patiently for it to hit sale...hopefully soon!

Winter Beauty Pullover

This was a top I hadn't really noticed online before but really loved when I put it on. I decided to go for the green color (Sky) in a small. The fit was good...not tight at all. I almost wish I would have tried on an XS just to compare, but should this hit sale, I would pick up the small. It's super pricey at full price so I will definitely be holding out for a sale on this one.

Refined Cord Shirtdress

I have seen so many bloggers post about this dress so I really wanted to see what all the fuss was about. When I put it on, I found out...it's so cute! I tried both size 2 and 4 and found the 4 to fit me best. The 2 was very tight through the bodice and pulled at the top buttons (and for me, one who is not super blessed up there, that's saying something). The 4 fit perfectly in the top and was a tad bit longer which made the length hit right at the top part of my knee. I really loved the corduroy on this and overall was super impressed with this dress. I don't own any shirtdresses so I wasn't sure if I would like it, but I'm a fan! I've wish listed this in hopes that a sale will bring it closer to me soon!!

Alluring Sway Skirt

I've had this skirt on my wish list ever since I first saw it on the website and was pleasantly surprised by how much I LOVED it on! I was wondering if the side ruching would be too much but it's actually super flattering! I tried this on in a size 0 and it fit, but I think I would go up to a size 2 if I get it...it would be a little more comfortable I think. I am a fan...wish listed!

Field Skirt--in gold and grey (paired with the new Bianka Blouse print)

What else can I say...LOVE!!! This skirt is essentially the Circle the Globe Skirt in corduroy...what's not to love? The fabric is super soft and not stiff at all like you might expect from corduroy. The gold is my favorite but I do love the dark grey as well. I took a size 2 in these--same as the Circle the Globe skirt. The length is about perfect...hits the top half of my knee. I'll be grabbing at least one of these when they hit sale FOR SURE!

As for the new colorway of the Bianka blouse...it's not for me. It's super cute on the hanger but just too crazy on for my liking. I'm still super happy I picked up the Blue motif when I did.

Dancing Blooms Cardi

I saw this cardi online and couldn't decide whether it was a cute floral print, or if it looked more like wallpaper. Well, wall paper won out, unfortunately. It was not my favorite. I can't even remember if this was a small or XS--I think it was a small. I liked the fit but just could not deal with the print. Pass.

Easy Keeper Skirt

When I saw this skirt in the catalog the colors were what really caught my eye. They were striking! As soon as I spotted the skirt in the store I had the same reaction...the bold print really draws you in. I tried this on in a 4 and it was a good fit. I have had this sitting on my wish list for a while, not sure if I really would like it or not, but after trying it on it's gone up quite a few notches on my wish list. I just love the unique cut, the bold colors and the plaid print. It's at the top of my wish list for sure!

Delicate Drafts Cardigan

I am a cardigan fanatic so it's no surprise I fell for this one too. I love all the decorative details and the neutral grey color. It's called grey but in all honesty I think it has a hint of lavendar in it as well. It's a well made piece and can go with tons of things. I highly recommend it. It runs pretty TTS in my opinion...The small fit me best. It's on my wish list...do I need it? Probably not. May wait for second cuts on this one.

Filamentous Cardigan (no longer online)

I adore this sweater...it's perfection in my book! The scalloped bottom, the darker tie around the waist, the chunky weave...it's the perfect package. I tried this one on in a XS and it fit well. I felt it ran big so size down. It was long enough but not too long for me...my friend who is a few inches taller than me felt it was too short on her so maybe anyone over my height (about 5' 6" tall) might not love the length...maybe. I have this wish listed...sitting tight till a sale rolls around. Even then, I might have to wait for 2nd cuts to be able to justify it..if it's still around!

Alice in Autumn Sweatercoat

I know I'm like the last blogger on the face of the planet to review this coat, but here ya go anyways! I liked the design of this coat from the hanger, and even on it's pretty cute (for reference, this is a small), but I cannot get past the fact that when you button the coat up, the weight of the buttons make the top part buckle down a bit and it looks sloppy. I just can't justify the money for something I'm not in love with. It's cute, but not for me. Pass!

Hiking Ruffles Cardigan

I was a little disappointed in this sweater...I had high hopes for it and in the end I wasn't blown away. I tried on both the XS and Small in Black and found I like the XS fit better (this is what I took pictures of)...the amount of ruffles on the small just seemed to take over. Even though they looked better on the XS, I'm not convinced this sweater is for me. Pass for now, and may reconsider if it hits sale.

Last but certainly not least, my lucky find of the day was the Circle the Globe skirt! I was just a little excited about my find you could say. I even pulled it out to wear to church today:

Details:
-Wonder Tee-Down East Basics
-Breezy Polka Cardi-Anthropologie
-Circle the Globe Skirt-Anthropologie
-Boots-Urban Outfitters
-Earrings-Old Navy
-Necklace-Fossil via Macy's
-Ring-Forever 21

I love this skirt...so comfortable and cute! Perfect combination! PS--my hair had a mind of it's own today. It would not do what I wanted to...please ignore! =)

Alright, that's all I have for you today...this week I'll be making my December sale wish list of what I'm allowed to buy...December is coming and it's time to shop my closet much much more! I'm off to bed now...it's back to the grind tomorrow morning bright and early.

Happy start of the week everyone!

The BIG BLACK FRIDAY post

I don't drink but I always equate the Saturday after Black Friday as being my once a year hangover. In all honesty, I felt pretty good for it being a hangover day! Friday was a BLAST!!! I went to bed at 10:45pm after getting home from a fabulous Thanksgiving day with my family and was awoken at 2:15am by my trusty alarm clock. By 3:30am my girlfriends Elise and Shari and I were on the road with a plan of attack in mind. First stop?? TARGET, baby!!! The line to get in the store was INSANE...but we got in it just as the doors opened and it only took about 5 minutes to get out of the 39 degree weather (thank heavens). Once in the store it was a little chaotic and crazy but within about 10-15 minutes it felt like the place had literally cleared out. It was so weird! We spent about an hour gathering our things and got in line. We were only in line about 10 minutes before making it to the cash registers...10 minutes! In past years we have stood in lines that wrapped around the store for almost an hour! This was actually an enjoyable experience. I picked up lots of toys and video games, some on sale, some just normal price. The Toy Story 3 X-Box game was only $35 instead of the normal $50, I got my older boys the door buster sale Nerf guns for only $19 and I picked up a DS game for my oldest son's stocking for $7. They'll be happy.

After Target we headed to the nearest Starbucks to get some hot chocolate...a yearly tradition. This year, however, we were greeted with something more divine than even my regular mint hot chocolate...this year they are serving Salted Carmel hot chocolate! OH MY GOSH...RUN TO STARBUCKS AND GET ONE NOW!!! It was SO GOOD!!! I can't even describe...I'll be going back for more several times this year I'm sure. After we downed our muffins and hot chocolate we were back on the road and arrived at the mall around 7am. We went looking for valet parking because with like $1000 worth of stuff from Target in the trunk between the three of us, we felt like valet was warranted. No luck...valet wasn't opening till 10am. It's Black Friday people! What the heck?? So we found what looked like a pretty safe parking spot in covered parking and went on our merry way. We hit up Pottery Barn Kids where I picked up Star Wars sheets for the two older boys, the Apple Store where I got a new case for my phone (Coby broke my case over a month ago...he threw my phone from the top of the staircase to the bottom floor...phone survived, case didn't), went into a few children's clothing and/or toy stores, William Sonoma where I found a seriously amazing kitchen toy for my mother-in-law for Christmas, walked through Banana Republic, Nordstrom, stopped for a quick snack--Jamba Juice for me of course, went to Gap (this was by far the worst crowd of the day...I've never seen a line that long at a clothing store--and seriously, for 50% off? Shoot--I got 45% off just last week!) and ended at Forever 21. The mall was good to us...crowds were low which was both surprising and nice.

After the mall we high-tailed it on over to my favorite store...Anthropologie! Now, I hardly ever actually visit the store...it's not exactly close to my house and when I do go I almost always have my kids with me, so since it was just me and my friends I had GRAND PLANS to pick up everything I could find that I wanted to try on and spend like an hour trying it all. It was so much fun! I tried on so many things...found out what I actually liked and didn't like off my wish list, figured out what sizes worked best on the things I liked and was able to add a few more things to my wish list for futures sales. I did indeed take some pictures for reviews...by that point in the day my phone was down to like 10 percent battery so I mostly took pictures of the things I liked. Reviews to come later. Anyhow, Anthro was fabulous, and I ended up taking 2 pretties home with me...the Stormy Seas tights on sale for $9.95 and..........the teal Circle the Globe skirt!!! Can you even believe it? There it was in the sale room hanging all alone...I almost fell over when I saw it! I could tell what it was just from the color alone...and then to look at the tag and see it was my size...SCORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can't even believe how that made such a great day even better! I have called customer service looking for this skirt so many times, just hoping one would find it's way into my hands somehow. And BAM...for $39.95 it was mine. I was one happy camper. I can't wait to wear it...gotta figure out how to winterize it up!

After our marathon dressing room session at Anthro we scooted on over to PF Changs for lunch. We were starving..it was like 2:00pm by that time. PF Changs for lunch is also a Black Friday tradition for us...we eat there every year. It tasted so good!! After we were refueled we headed on over to Nordstrom Rack to spend our $50 Groupons we picked up last week. Well, as soon as we walked in the store we knew we were in trouble...I kid you not, the line to pay was wrapped around the entire store! At this point in the day (now 3pm) that was a little overwhelming so we decided to come back to Rack another day. Loft was just across the parking lot so that was our last shopping spot of the day. We all tried a few things on but only my girlfriend Shari ended up bringing anything home. My other girlfriend Elise and I were both hoping to see the faux fur vests in the store but the two we were hoping for weren't in yet. BUMMER! I put in a request for the Chunky Cable vest with Faux Fur through Loft's customer service today because they're sold out of my size online so hopefully a store will be able to match it and send it to me soon (and it'll be 40% off!)!

Anyhow, after Loft we were done (we did have to run back to Nordstrom for Shari to pick up her boots she had on hold but Elise and I just stayed in the car). At this point in the day we were starting to be very comical...we were delirious, really. Everything was funny. We laughed at everything. It was hilarious. While we were sitting in the parking lot our friend Amy (who usually goes with us Black Friday shopping but couldn't this year because she now lives in Japan) texted us and said "good morning!". The funny thing about this is that we had talked to her at 5:30am when we were at Target and she was just heading to bed (Japan is 15-16 hours ahead of us). So literally, she had gone to bed and slept all night and had now woken up...and we were still out shopping! That puts the day into perspective now doesn't it! Too funny

So that was my Black Friday...not a dull moment and such a fun experience. Days like these are what my girly self lives for. I look forward to Black Friday all year long partly of course for the shopping, but mostly for the fun experiences I have with my closest friends. I love these girls to death.

So I can't leave you without showing you what I wore for the big Black Friday outing...first with the coat:

And without (sorry for the blurry picture):

Details:

It was one cold morning so I piled on the layers. The coat kept me pretty warm...and it was festive! =)

Stay tuned as I'll be posting some Anthro reviews later on and my new, revised wish list...I'm always hoping for a good sale! =)

Pop of Color!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!! I'm headed off to bed soon but since it's already Thanksgiving on the west coast I figured I go ahead and wish you a good one! Wednesday was another relaxing day...we hung out around the house in the morning, my son's friend came over to play XBox for a bit with him and then we FINALLY made it to Costco where I picked up our Christmas cards! I really like how they turned out...Etsy was the way to go for sure this year. I ordered my envelopes today (Metallic red...so festive) so once they arrive I can get the cards on their way!

So onto what I wore...I was in the mood to be comfortable so out came the leggings...I also felt like playing a little with color and some sequins too:

-Leggings-Target
-Cardigan-Gap Outlet
-Perry D-Ring Boots-Loft
-Sequin Scarf-Charlotte Russe (gifted in a swap)
-Necklace-Anthropologie

Are you dressing up for Thanksgiving?? No one in my family does so I'll probably just go casual....jeans or something. And for Black Friday??? I'll be bundled up in boots, a warm sweater of some sort and a coat for sure...it's gonna be a COLD one out there, but OH SO WORTH IT!!!

I wish all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving and hope you all enjoy the day with friends, family and loved ones!!

Earth Tones

Anytime I wear blue and green together I feel like I'm super earthy for some reason...and then yesterday when I threw a little brown into the mix I really felt like it. It's good to love the earth, right?!

Details:
-Ruffle Tank-Loft (Spring 2010)
-Forever Cardigan-J Crew Outlet (Fall 2010)
-Skinny Jeans-American Eagle
-Boots-Urban Outfitters
-Necklace-Loft
-Earrings-Nordstrom
-Ring-Forever 21

I've been enjoying our break this week...not having to be anywhere by 8am definitely has it's perks....for instance I didn't shower or get dressed until 2pm yesterday (LAZY!!!) The goal today is to get going before lunch to run some errands. Lofty goal, I know. I did finally decide on a Christmas card yesterday...that was a big accomplishment! I had decided on one from Tiny Prints and then when I tried to insert our picture my husband's head kept getting cut off. He's 6' 4". I even contacted customer service to see if they could help me fix it and they flat out told me he was too tall in the picture I wanted to use for the particular design I liked. Bummer! So I took Jan's advice and went over to Etsy to search for options. I actually used Etsy last year so I figured I'd be able to find something again...and I did!
Check out this cute store: Oodles of Color

Alrighty...gotta get moving to get out the door to get some errands run. Have a great day!

Three days before Black Friday and all through the house...

Black Friday is on the mind people! I actually starting shopping early this year and have picked up a handful of items already but I definitely have some more to go. Yesterday my inbox and mailbox outside were inundated with sale emails/fliers...so many great deals to be had! I did bite yesterday (in a big way) at Gap, Old Navy and Banana...I picked up pj's for my oldest, a nice sweater for my husband, a warm and fuzzy hoodie for my youngest, and of course I couldn't pass up a few pretties for myself. I'm just realizing I don't think I picked anything up for #2...his dresser drawers can barely close right now so I guess that's ok. Being #2 means he gets everything from #1...which is a lot!

So yesterday I went comfy...I wore my new City Flats for the first time too:

Details:
-Percussive Cardigan-Anthropologie
-Top-Loft
-Skinny Cargos-Old Navy
-City Flats-Gap
-Necklace-Fossil
-Earrings-Express
-Ring-Pac Sun

Excuse the fly-away hair, by the way! Holy cow these shoes are so comfortable...I even ordered another pair last night because I couldn't believe how comfy they were! I highly recommend them...they're made well.

Anthro did indeed have a sale this morning it looks like...I haven't picked anything up...nothing stood out in a big way. I'm hoping to make it to Anthro on Black Friday...I haven't been to the actual store in months and would love the chance to go in a look around without kids in tow. I saw that a few cute aprons did hit sale so I might pick one up for my mom as a Christmas gift..she loves to cook and likes herself a cute apron. I hear there MAY be a round 2 of Anthro sales tonight...that's the rumor floating around anyways so we'll see. Makes me wonder if I should wait till tonight to order anything just in case!

No big plans today...we're headed to a friend's house for dinner so that will be fun. I should go to Costco too to pick a few things up...we'll see how motivated I get. I'm also on the hunt for a fabulous Christmas photo card...we got our family pictures back and now I am trying to find a card. If you know of any great sites for photo cards let me know. I've already searched through Tiny Prints, Shutterfly, Costco, etc...I found a few that I like but was wondering if there are other places I'm missing. Let me know if you know of one!

Have a great day!

Yesterday's Look

Happy start of the Thanksgiving (Black Friday) week!!! I could tell it was Thanksgiving (Black Friday) week when I opened up my email this morning and found TONS of sale emails to so many different places. 40% off at Gap, Banana and Old Navy, 25% off at Piperlime, special deals at Loft, American Eagle Holiday deals...so many fun (and tempting) sales!!! I need to look through the Gap brand stores and see if I might be able to pick up some Christmas presents with those great deals! I think I might grab a pair of those Gap skinny cords if they have my size in stock too since they don't sell petite sizes in the store...gotta grab these deals while I can!

Yesterday while I was getting ready for church I was trying to figure out what to wear with flats once again (the ankle is still on the fritz). I just couldn't do it. I couldn't figure out anything dressy enough with riding boots and nothing was looking good to me with flats. I'm sure I could have figured out something but I REALLY just wanted to wear a pair of cute heels. It's been 3 weeks since my sprain and it is getting better so I thought a few hours of heels would be a good ankle strengthening exercise anyways (great logic, right??) =). I wore the thickest heels I had so my chances of falling over weren't too good...my yellow Seychelles pumps. After a few hours I was definitely ready to take them off. No damage done or anything, but this darn ankle is still not ready for a run. =(

Details:
-Ballerina Dress-Shabby Apple
-Roaming Frills Cardigan-Anthropologie
-Password Pumps-Seychelles-ON SALE RIGHT NOW AT NORDSTROM FOR $44.90!!!
-Necklace-Fossil (via Macy's)
-Earrings/Bracelet-Old Navy
-Ring-Forever 21

This is the first time I've worn my Roaming Frills Cardigan...I picked it up on the trade market at Effortless Anthroplogie a while back. After seeing so many bloggers wear it and look so great in it I decided if I came across one I'd pick it up. Love! It's such a great layering piece...perfect for fall outfits yet light enough to wear into the next seasons as well.

My boys and I have enjoyed lounging around the house in our pj's this morning...nothing like breaking in the holiday vacation like a good lounge. This afternoon we're meeting up with some friends at the bouncy house place and then having them over for dinner afterwards...we're having breakfast for dinner tonight I think. YUM!

Have a good one!

Busted

So I have confessions to make...I totally failed this weekend with my shopping ban. It all started on Friday night when my girlfriend texted me about the Nordstrom Rack Groupon that was floating around ($25 for a $50 credit). After going back and forth we decided to get them and make sure we stopped by Nordstrom Rack on Black Friday so we can use the Groupons (they expire in December and we don't live close to one). Then I told her I thought I should re-adjust my shopping break rules and just give myself the weekend of Black Friday to shop some. After all, there are gonna be some awesome deals that I would be stupid to pass up! So I decided that if I do indeed find a few things (as opposed to my ONE thing I was allowing myself) that would be ok.

Then yesterday I went to the mall with my boys. I promised them a trip to the Lego store and then we stopped by to see Santa. I had heard that Gap was having a 45% off everything for Gap/Old Navy/Banana Rep cardholders so I figured I'd stop in and look around. I also wanted to try on their cords that I'd only seen online so far. I mainly wanted to know what the length was like on them (not a big surprise that they were WAY took long on me...by like 4 inches...wish they'd sell petite sizes in the store). So I looked around and the silver Metallic City Flats caught my eye. I've wanted to get a pair of these for a while but every time I've gone to get a pair my size has ALWAYS been out for some reason. Today they were fully stocked. Of course. I also spotted the belt that Gap recently cancelled my order for. I was told they no longer had any in stock...that's funny because they had about 25 of them in that store! There I was standing there with the cute City Flats and the ruffle black belt I was so sad to lose out on before...I just couldn't pass them up. So up to the register I went. I'm sorry, but almost half off is too good to pass up (the flats were only $21 and the belt about $17). I could have done a lot more damage but the idea of the shopping break supposedly being in place prevented me from anything else.

We moved on down the way where I found my way into Loft. I wanted to see some of the new arrivals in real life. I found several things that I could have easily jumped on and brought home but I didn't. Well, I did, but not as much as I would have. The Friends and Family promo was still happening (today is the last day by the way) and I really liked a few items I found so again, I gave in. I'm a total disappointment, right! So bad. I got home and re-tried everything on just to make sure I really liked them all and yes, still love. You'll be seeing this, this and this in some upcoming outfits now I'm sure!

So that's why I'm busted. My friend pointed out that maybe I should have waited until December to start my shopping break. There wouldn't be as many tempting and amazing sales in December as there are in November! Plus there aren't usually too many new releases of items in the month of December...for the most part what's come out already is what's going to be out for a while. So here's my NEW shopping break rules:

For the rest of November (including Black Friday/Cyber Monday) try hard to keep my shopping in check. This should be a general rule of thumb anyways, right! And most importantly, don't go overboard. I think that having the shopping break rules yesterday at the mall actually helped me because had I not had them in the back of my mind (even though I totally broke them) I would have probably bought more. I didn't come home feeling bad about what I got really because I know I'll wear everything I got, a lot. If I find something for a great price that I love and know it might not be as good a deal anytime soon, I can consider it. Starting in December, go back to really trying to stick to my Anthro sale wish list. I'm not going to say NO shopping because I fear telling myself I can't do something makes me want to do it even more (hence the "break", not the "ban"). I think this all might be a little more attainable (I should have remembered what I learned in my Health classes in college when originally setting out on the shopping break--only make realistic goals!!!)

So there you have it. We all have our weaknesses...mine happens to be my love of finding a deal and cute things. I'm a total girl.

So this week we have NO SCHOOL!!! I'm sure most kids are out all week. I need to come up with some activities to do with my kids to keep us all busy. What are you doing? Anything fun? Traveling?

Hope you all have a great Sunday...enjoy!

Switching Lanes

It's Thursday!!! Almost the weekend once again. This morning I woke up to FREEZING cold weather...well, in my California girl mind it was freezing. It was definitely sweater weather, for sure. I broke out a fairly new sale item I picked up from Anthro a few weeks back to keep warm:

Details:

-Switching Lanes Cardigan-Anthropologie
-Ruffle Tank-Loft (Summer 2010)
-Skinny Jeans-Banana Republic
-Kachiri Boots-Target
-Earrings-Stella & Dot-gifted
-Ring-Charlotte Russe
-Necklace-Fossil via Macy's

I saw this cardigan when it was full price on my girl's weekend shopping trip in San Francisco a few months back and thought it was really cute. When it first went on sale it didn't seem to sell out too fast so I figured I'd wait around and try my luck for second cuts. It worked to my advantage this time around as I picked it up for a rocking deal of just $19.95! I love the stripes and the taupe color just happens to match my Target boots perfectly...I love these boots (think that's pretty apparent from how often I wear them).

I never got around to posting my outfit from yesterday--nothing too exciting but I was comfy:

Details:
-Top-J Crew Outlet ($16 on sale)
-Skinny Jeans-Banana Republic
-Leopard Print flats-Forever 21
-Necklace-Lisa Leonard Designs
-Ring-OLD
-Earrings-Express
-Bracelet Watch-gift from my in-laws

This afternoon I've got my 1st grader's parent-teacher conference to attend and then we're headed to the park for a play date. Afterwards we're hosting dinner for our park date friends...I'm already cooking a roast in the crockpot and it smells SOOO good! Hope the weather warms up just a tad for the park...this weekend it's suppose to be rainy so we have to enjoy the sunshine while it's still here.

Have a great day!

Lucky Find!!

For months I have checked Ebay and the trade market at Effortless Anthropologie for the Wind Rippled Tee in teal. I wasn't an Anthro shopper when this cute top came out but always admired it when I saw other bloggers wearing theirs...Jan comes to mind. I was determined to find one for myself. How hard could it be? Well, kinda hard I found out! This was a coveted item apparently! I FINALLY struck gold on the marketplace one week and for a rockin' deal I was able to pick up a brand new, never worn top in the size and color I wanted. I am so happy with this purchase...the color is perfect for fall and the detailing is so fun!

Details:
-Wind Rippled Top-Anthropologie
-Denim Skirt-Old Navy (circa 2006)
-Cardigan-Old Navy (picked this up for about $14 on a sale)
-Kachiri Boots (Taupe)-Target
-Knee-High Socks-Target
-Necklace-Lisa Leonard Designs
-Ring-Forever 21
-Earrings-Target
-Bangles-Gap Outlet

I have become such a fan of these boots so far this fall...I really loved the color of them when I bought them and so far they have proven to go with so many things! They were definitely a good purchase for me.

So just a few more things...they're building a new Forever 21 at my local mall! So excited! The closest one now is about 25 minutes away so this will be great to pick up my $3 rings and whatnot!

I didn't pick anything up from the Anthro sale today...I was tempted but I held strong.

Wanna know what I did end up picking up yesterday (I'm a cheater, I know)?? I just couldn't help myself...I was afraid if I didn't get it now I might lose out on the opportunity (heaven forbid):

I feel justified because upon inspection of my collection of like 75 cardigans (for shame), I don't own a single red one (well, I actually ended up finding one red one but I don't count it because it's a shorty and I can't really wear it with much--in fact, I don't know that I've ever actually worn it--hmmm). Anyhow, the nice people at the Salt Lake City Anthro are shipping it to me, free of charge (super nice people) and it'll be here just in time to start sporting red for the holidays. I am a little worried about the sheerness of that polka dot ribbon on the shoulders...it'll be a cardigan I wear with caution around my kiddos for sure. I just think it is the cutest and can't wait to wear it!

This is my 89th post and I just saw I now have 75 followers...how fun! I think I'll be doing a fun little giveaway for my 100th post so stay tuned!

Right after I post this I'm going to go start THIS with my boys...I love this idea and think it's a great activity to do with them to help them think about what they're grateful for--me too! Becky Higgins is so creative--I love her ideas!

After that we're gonna make ice cream sandwiches with the chocolate chip cookies I just baked. Don't be too impressed--I used the frozen cookie dough from my son's fundraiser at school. =)

Hope you have a fabulous evening...I can't wait for Glee tonight with Gwyneth Paltrow...it looks soooo good! I also plan to surf the internet a little to find some neighbor/friend Christmas gift ideas...the Christmas season is right around the corner...gotta get ready!!!

Field Game kind of day

Happy Monday everyone!!! It was over 80 degrees here today---in the middle of November! Who would have thought? And to think I was THIS close to packing away all the boys' summer clothes last weekend...hmmm.

So this morning I knew exactly what I was in the mood to wear...and here it is:

Details:
-V-neck Tee-J Crew (bought at the outlet but came from the retail store--no diamonds on the tag)
-Field Game Cardigan-Anthropologie
-Ultimate Skinny Jeans-Banana Republic
-Blue Leopard print flats-Gap
-Small Open Circle Necklace-Shabby Apple
-Ring-Target
-Earrings-Kenneth Cole via Macy's
-Bracelet-Twisted Silver (gift from my friend Elise)

This cardigan is one of the first few things I ever bought from Anthropologie...I was late to the game and had never bought anything from there until earlier this year! I was hesitant to buy it as I wasn't sure it was really me, but now I'm so glad I did...I love it! I've paired it with other colors before, but honestly I really like the way it looks with just a cream colored tee. These shoes are the ones I picked up at Gap last week (for just $16--they were on sale and then I also got an extra 30% off with the Friends and Family promo) after I exchanged the same pair, just in a different color. I don't own any true blue colored shoes so this was a new color for me...I branched.

So it looks like there's gonna be a sale at Anthro tomorrow!!! I have my six "allowed" wish list items ready (although as of now I don't think any of them are on sale--boo!!!!) I now realize I forgot to put in a "2nd cuts clause" in my shopping break rules last week. I should have also mentioned that if there are items I've had on my LONG wish list that get 2nd cuts and are just too good a deal to pass up, I may be forced to bite (like $19.95 for a top or cardigan or something that used to be $100). Please, even shopping break rules don't apply to deals like that! Just saying. For the most part though, I'm just sticking to looking for deals on the 6 items I posted in my rules previously (except for the one item I called about today and ended up ordering because it was super hard to locate. It already hit sale a few weeks ago and I'm afraid it will be all gone before it makes 2nd cuts--which is when I originally had planned on picking it up. Yes, I cheated. There, I said it. Back on the bandwagon for me now. Not even gonna tell you what it was...you'll have to wait and see. =) So much for will power...geez. Baby steps....baby steps...I'm a work in progress).

Alrighty...off to watch Gossip Girl...my Monday night guilty pleasure. Have a good night!

Weekend Wrap-Up

This weekend was simply gorgeous outside...perfect fall weather. We spent three hours at a park on Friday afternoon playing with friends and then hubby and I took the kids to another park yesterday for a bit to get some of the kids' energy out again. You have to take advantage of these awesome fall days while they're here (and while the rain is NOT)! I have a few days worth of outfits to share with you...first up is from Friday:

With the sweater:

Details:
-Bianka Blouse (blue motif)-Anthropologie--only solid colors left online now
-Grosgrain Cardigan-Loft
-Skinny Jeans-American Eagle
-Kachiri Boots (Taupe)-Target
-Necklace-Fossil
-Ring-Forever 21
-Earrings-Old Navy

I love this blouse. I love the colors and how versatile the top is. I wore it with a skirt last time I wore it and it has a totally different look to it with jeans.

Saturday:

Details:
-Top-The Limited
-Jackie Cardigan-J Crew Outlet
-Always Skinny Jeans-Gap
-Ruffle Flats-Old Navy
-Necklace-Tiffany (gift from hubby)
-Earrings-Express
-Ring/Bracelet-Pac Sun

This was a super comfy, easy outfit...perfect for a Saturday. Pretty much any cardigan can be thrown over this shirt and match. I felt a little colorful with the magenta shoes, but I liked it. You can always use a little more color, right?!!

And today:

Details:
-Top-Loft
-Skirt-Loft
-Traversa Cardigan-J Crew
-Flats-Rocketdog via Macy's
-Necklace-Anthropologie
-Earrings-Nordstrom
-Ring-Forever 21
-Bracelet-family piece handed down to me from my grandma

We went to church this afternoon and I was once again faced with trying to find an outfit to wear with flat shoes (my sprained ankle is still not healed). I haven't worn heels in two weeks and I'm missing all my tall shoes! I'm hoping this is the week it starts feeling better. Maybe by the time Thanksgiving rolls around I can think about wearing heels again (fingers crossed). I haven't worn this top in months...it's been sitting in my "wash by hand" pile that I finally got around to washing last week. This skirt is fun because it has a bit of a shimmer to it (foil finish I think it was called). I always like a little bling!! Overall I liked how the outfit turned out--I'd wear it again.

Since I put myself on a shopping break for clothes for myself I've been focusing more on my Christmas shopping lists. My boys went through the Target Christmas book yesterday and showed me all the toys they want...geez, Santa better get busy! =) I thought I'd share with you one of the fun, super cheap toys Santa is bringing them this year...it was a toy we stumbled upon at a friends house and they loved it!

Stomp Rocket Jr. Glow Kit

This was a toy that all the neighborhood kids were lined up to play with when it was out...including my boys. It's super fun, inexpensive, and so simple, but they loved it! And it doesn't even need batteries...that's the best part! I picked one of these up on Amazon last night along with one of the three pillow pets I'm hunting down for a good price. Anyone else's kids getting a Pillow Pet this Christmas? Those darn commercials on TV totally worked and sucked my kids in. My oldest wants the penguin, #2 wants the dolphin and #3 is getting the monkey...because #2 said #3 wants a monkey....funny. The penguin was a decent price on Amazon but the Dolphin and Monkey were super inflated...I'll just check some local stores to pick those up...I've seen them around.

What are your kiddos asking for this year? Are you already shopping? I'm getting ready (and super excited) for Black Friday in less than two weeks...can't wait! My friends and I are planning on a midnight start this year...definitely gonna need some mint hot chocolate from Starbucks at some point in the night to keep me going!

Return goods

TGIF!!! I love Fridays...they are by far my favorite day of the week. My second favorite is Monday...I like getting back into a routine after the weekends. Today we had planned on going to visit my parents since #1 has the day off of school but my mom isn't feeling very well so we'll be sticking closer to home today after all. Gotta find something to entertain my kiddos with now!

Yesterday we went to make my returns and had a good little shopping trip. I did indeed stick to my rules and came home with leftover money from my returns. I returned a pair of shoes and a sweater to Loft, and in return ended up picking up a pair of tan cords for $29 and a different sweater for $22. The cords were suppose to an in-store special of $39.50 and the sweater was suppose to be an in-store special of $29.50...when I went to pay I made mention of the fact that I should have spent a little more to have been able to use the mailer coupon that I had gotten a few weeks back (get 20% off a purchase of $100 or more) but really I knew I wasn't going to because of my shopping break rules. The sales associate then told me I could still use the coupon in-store for ANY amount even if I didn't make it to the $100 mark...that was news to me! So I got an extra 20% off of both items and saved even more money which was great! I basically got both items for 50% off or more.

After Loft, I went to return a pair of shoes to Gap. While in line I saw the same shoes in a different color that I hadn't noticed online before...I really liked them! When I glanced at the price tag I noticed they were now $15 cheaper than what I had originally paid for them. Along with that I could get 30% off with the Give and Get promo so I decided to go ahead and just exchange them for the other color and get a much better deal. I ended up getting $20 back. Cha-ching! After that we stopped by Nordstrom where I did indeed pick up the purse I had mentioned before, along with a belt for $14.99...I've been wanting a darker chocolate brown belt for a while so I figured I'd just go ahead and grab it. After all was said and done I didn't spend an extra penny and came home with money left over from all the returns/exchanges. I was pretty proud of myself for staying within my rules.

Here's what I wore out on our shopping/returning excursion (I looked like a walking Loft advertisement!):

Details:
-Painted Stripe Top-Loft (LOVE LOVE LOVE this top!!!)
-Grey skinny jeans-Loft
-Perry D-Ring Riding Boots-Loft
-Necklace-Fossil
-Earrings-Express
-Ring-Pac Sun

I always feel funny walking into a store wearing clothes that are still on the racks...when I come out of the dressing room I'm super paranoid and don't want them to think I put something on and just walked out in it...I swear this is what I wore into your store! Am I the only one worried about that? =) haha

I'm off to pick up #2 from preschool...gotta go wake up #3 from his nap...sad. Hope you have a great day!!!

The time has come...and an OOTD

Happy Wednesday everyone! It's a short school week for my first grader so today was his last day till next Monday. I felt like Christmas had come early when he pulled out the piece of paper that said there was no homework for next week...a parent's dream! Seriously, I hated homework when I was in school but I think I hate it even more now as a parent. Since there's no school tomorrow it's a good opportunity to get a few things done--like make some returns. I have things to return to Loft and Gap, both of which I have to drive about a half hour to get to. No worries...the drive is well worth it because we always stop by our favorite frozen yogurt joint on the way out. I could eat it everyday--even in the winter. One time they had Red Velvet fro-yo...heavenly! My all-time favorite has to be the Boysenberry though...oh my gosh, I wish I had some right now!

Anyhow, I'm totally off-topic now--sorry. Back to the title, "The Time has Come"...well, the time has come for a shopping break. Seriously, I need a (forced) break. My husband has always been super good about not giving me too hard of a time when it comes to my little shopping habit, for which I am grateful, but I think when I start to feel guilt about it all on my own, it's time to take a break. The shopping break begins right now...tonight. On my little trip tomorrow I am only allowed to buy something if it is with the money I receive from the returns I make, and even then, I'm gonna try hard not to spend that. Like any good break, there are a few exceptions (hence, I'm not using the words ban):

1. I am allowed to buy an over the shoulder/cross body purse--one I can use for Black Friday so I don't have to lug around the big purse I usually carry. Every single purse I own has short straps so I really want one to be able to just throw across my body and not have to worry about holding it. I already have this picked out from Nordstrom that I plan on picking up tomorrow with some of my "returns" money.

2. I am allowed to purchase the following things off my Anthro wish list if they pop up on sale (Oh, and if they all hit sale I can't buy them all!!!):

Filamentous Cardigan

Anticipation Heels

Floral Frappe Top

Field Skirt

Loosely Looped Tee

Whipped Woolens Cardigan

Some of these probably won't even come close to hitting sale--but I had to include them JUST in case. =)

3. I am allowed to purchase ONE item for myself on Black Friday if I see one that I can't live without. I'm sorry, but it's Black Friday...my version of Christmas! We don't usually spend a lot of time looking for things for ourselves while we're Black Friday shopping, but I have been known to find a good deal on something I just had to have so I'm leaving this option open.

4. I am allowed to purchase a few pairs of patterned tights...I need a few for the winter months. So far these have caught my eye:

Stormy Seas Tights

Ok, that's it...I think I can do it. I have a few things on their way to me in the mail right now so you'll probably still see some new things pop up here and there but know that they were all purchased pre-shopping break. This shopping break will be in effect until Christmas day--December 25th. The problem with the last ban was that I totally went nutso afterwards to make up for the time I didn't get to shop. This will NOT happen this time around (using the word break instead of ban is making me feel better already). At the start of the new year I'm going to create a clothing budget for myself. Seriously, my closet is overflowing...I really don't have anymore room! =) It's either create a budget or kick my husband out of his closet (which I've already taken over half of--whoops). So that's the plan. Wish me luck!

I'll leave you with my outfit from today...I purchased the cardigan and tank at the same time to wear together...the model on the website had them on together and I loved the way it looked. I'm totally one of those people who buys things that the models look good in, hoping that I look just like the model when I wear it...tell me I'm not the only one that does that!

Details:
-V-Neck Cardigan-Loft
-Twist Neck Tank-Loft
-Always Skinny Jeans-Gap
-Riding Boots-Old Navy (2009)
-Earrings-Target
-Necklace-Banana Republic Outlet
-Ring-gift from my husband

So off I go...let the shopping "break" begin! Anyone else brave enough to join in? =)

Lots of Layers

It was COLD here this morning and I wanted nothing more than to pile on the layers to keep warm as I dropped my son off at school. The night before I was at Target standing in the checkout line and saw this girl in the next line over wearing the cutest outfit...she had a short-sleeved tan chunky weave sweater with an asymmetrical buttoned up collar (that she had draped open) layered over a brown long sleeved shirt. It looked super cozy and cute and I loved how she had it paired with skinny jeans and riding boots. When I was getting dressed this morning I thought back to her outfit and decided to try to recreate it with what I could find in my closet. It's not an exact replica of course, but I came pretty darn close!

Details:
-Cowl neck Sweater-Forever 21 (Fall 2009)
-Long sleeved tee-Old Navy
-Skinny Jeans-Banana Republic
-Kachiri Boots (Taupe)-Target
-Ring-Old Navy
-Earrings-Kenneth Cole (via Macy's)

I threw on a long, green coat over the top of my sweater this morning when it was really cold...I was definitely warm...mission accomplished! It was so satisfying to be able to recreate this look with items I already owned! And who would have thought that I'd find inspiration for my outfit today at my local Target check-out line? I suppose stranger things have happened. =)

Tomorrow is looking to be another cool day so I'll probably sporting some more layers...I'm all about staying warm...I really hate being cold! Hope you have a good one!

Lots of Neutrals

Technically it's already Tuesday...so happy second day of the week (no, I'm not up late looking over the sale at Anthro...ok, maybe I am. And maybe I picked up this and this). =) I wanted to quickly share my outfit from Monday...I mixed and matched neutral after neutral and threw in a little color to top it off:

Details:
-Floral Tank-Old Navy
-Skinny Cargos-Old Navy
-Shawl Cardigan-American Eagle
-Flats-Target
-Double Torsade Necklace-Anthropologie
-Earrings-Old Navy
-Ring-Forever 21

I'm not sure I've ever worn so many neutral colors together before (army green, grey, tan) but I like how it turned out...the key was to add some pop with accessories (or accessory, in this case). When I saw this shirt I immediately thought of my coral colored Double Torsade Necklace...the colors in the shirt matched the necklace perfectly! This shawl cardigan is the most comfortable thing, I have to say. I really love it! Every once in a while you can find yourself a fabulous gem at American Eagle...keep your eyes open!

Alrighty, I'm off to bed!

My Favorite Colors...and a survey for you!!!

As I was looking through 'In Style' Magazine the other night I saw a picture of a girl wearing red and pink on top together...a light when off in my head...why haven't I ever thought to mix those two colors like that before? DUH! They are my two favorite colors, after all! I know I've worn pink cardigans a lot in the past few days but you'll have to excuse my obsession for at least one more day as I continue on with another:

Details:
-Hidden Placket Cardigan (in "peach"--even thought it looks pink)-Banana Republic
-Ruffle Tank-Ann Taylor Factory Store (Summer 2010)
-Always Skinny Jeans-Gap (petite length for my short legs)
-Leopard Print Flats-Forever 21 (Fall 2009)
-Watch-Fossil (OLD--but I still love it!)
-Ring-Target
-Earrings/Necklace-Nordstrom

I totally love red and pink together! Look at me...I already have a Valentine's Day outfit picked out...I'm so on top of it. =) You could also claim it looks super Candyland-ish...that's ok, I'm a fan. I love these leopard print flats I grabbed at Forever 21 last year but know I'll need to replace them eventually with some new ones. When you buy shoes from Forever 21 you can't really expect them to last longer than a season or two, really. I kind of hope they last a lot longer as I love them! They were my first printed shoe I ever bought...kind of a leap for me at the time. Also a leap was this necklace I bought (I thought it was SOOO different and not me at the time--haha) to wear to my husband's dental school graduation 3 1/2 year ago. I was always pretty conservative about wearing simple jewelry and when the sales associate suggested this necklace with the dress I was going to wear I just kind of shrugged. She basically had to talk me into it. It's so funny because by my standards now I think this is really a pretty simple necklace! Back then however, a double strand was apparently really taking a step outside the box (chuckle). My how things have changed! I mean, I'm still not super out there with my clothes, but a double-stranded necklace is nothing to be wary of, my goodness! I'm glad that I've become more willing to try new things...it totally changes how you dress.

Since we're talking favorites, here's a little survey to take about your "Favorites"...copy and paste this list into your own blog and replace my answers with yours! Pinks and Greys

Happy Weekend everyone! I'm quite happy to have a few days off, I must admit. We went to the Harvest Festival last night at my son's school and had such a great time. Today we'll do a little running around and then tonight we're meeting up with some friends at the park (as long as the rain stays away) for a play date and then we'll grab some dinner. The weekends really do fly by too fast! So these past few days without realizing it I stuck to pinks and greys in my wardrobe. On Thursday I wore my pale pink Traversa cardi I picked up on sale with a charcoal grey (almost black) ruffle tank. I started out with the cardigan buttoned but decided it was more me if I left it open.

Details:
-Traversa Cardigan-J Crew
-Ruffle Tank-J Crew
-Ultimate Skinny Jeans-Banana Republic
-Zebra flats-Target
-Necklace/Ring-Forever 21
-Earrings-New York and Co

Not sure why there's a white dot on my stomach in this picture...please ignore. I really like this cardigan...super easy to wear and it's a great layering piece. I seriously cannot say enough good things about Banana jeans too....they fit great and they don't stretch at all during the day which is hard to find these days!

So yesterday I pulled out this cute sweater dress I picked up from Loft last month...it's a little short for me so I paired it with some skinny jeans and boots.

Details:

-Sweater Dress-Loft
-Always Skinny Jeans-Gap
-Perry D-Ring Boots-Loft (these are my $41.99 boots...originally $178!)
-Necklace-New York and Co
-Earrings/Ring-Forever 21
-Bracelet-no clue where I got this!

Last night got a little chilly out so when we went to the Harvest Festival I decided to throw on this long cardigan that I picked up at Forever 21 months ago (it's a Love 21 item):

It was just about the perfect length to go with the sweater dress.

Well, I'm off to get my day started. Hope you all have a great day!
