Back to School: 10 Looks for Mom!

We're just a week away from school starting now and I think we're just about ready!  I have a few more school supplies to track down and we're still patiently awaiting the arrival of the kids' backpacks and lunch boxes still (geez Gap, you're taking this 7-9 days shipping window quite literally this time...and we only live like an hour away from the distribution center!) but other than that we're good to go!  As moms we spend so much time getting our kiddos ready to start school but we also have a few events to get ready for ourselves such as meet the teacher nights, open houses, PTO meetings, etc.  I don't know about you but I like to try put my best foot forward when attending these kinds of events.  There's nothing better than feeling put together amongst other moms, am I right?!  So I thought it would be helpful to put together some outfits in Polyvore I feel comfortable and fashion forward in.  Having a bunch of set options ready to draw from in the next few weeks when events come up will be super helpful and a huge time saver!

When attending school events I think it's important to not only dress your best, but appropriately.  I'll never forget the time I went to pick up my son from kindergarten one day and another mom came in her sports bra, shorts and tennis shoes to pick up her child.  That's it!  It was not only uncomfortable for the teacher, but all of the other parents there.  Now I'm going to go ahead and assume none of you are planning to go to Back-to-school night in only your sports bra so we're already on the right track!  Should you dress to the nines to go meet the teacher for the first time either though?  No, not necessarily.  You'll stand out in the opposite way.  I like to find a happy-medium. I think dressing in a dressy-casual manner is most appropriate.  Sometimes people will remember you because of what you wear so try wearing something that's memorable in a good way.  A fun necklace, or a bright colored pair of jeans will stand out among a sea of neutrals.  Also dress age-appropriately.  I know we all want to look as young as possible, but there are lines to be drawn.  Use your best judgement.  If you're not sure, ask a trusted friend.

So without further ado, here are some looks I put together using items I have in my closet (except the pair of shoes in set #2...but dang, they're cute!!) that I would totally wear to any school event coming up:

See any looks you would wear?  Whatever you wear, make sure you're comfortable and feel confident.  That being said, challenge yourself a little too!   If you're not used to wearing much jewelry, throw on a necklace before you leave the house.  If you usually just wear flip flops everywhere you go, try wearing a pair of wedge sandals to dress up your look a bit. If neutrals are taking over your closet, I dare you to buy something with some color next time you're out shopping for clothes.  It's always fun to step outside the box a bit.

Good luck at all your upcoming school events!

For those still on summer break, enjoy these last few days.  Early mornings and homework will be upon us soon enough.

Have a great day!

PS--Just an FYI...I reduced the prices of every single item left on my sale blog last night.  Take a look and see if something catches your eye!

  1. All so adorable Jenni! I agree, it's good to think through appropriate outfits for these early meet-and-greet times. A happy medium of cute casual is just right. A sports bra, gads. Sure, many moms are off to work out after a school drop off, but we can all stop to put on a tee over the bra, can't we? lol. Best of luck with all the back-to-school prep! We're sending our little guy to full-day 5k, so lots of new stuff for us. It's exciting!
